Armed Herdsmen Wreck Havoc on Benue Community, Killing Scores, Setting Houses Ablaze

A horrific attack by suspected armed herdsmen on Mbagena community in Benue State has left at least 11 people dead and several others injured.

The assailants, who invaded the community on Friday night and returned on Saturday evening, also set houses ablaze and looted food barns, leaving the community in a state of distress.

According to eyewitnesses, the attackers shot and killed anyone in sight, burnt homes, and destroyed farm produce stored in food barns.

As of Sunday morning, 11 bodies had been recovered, while several others remain missing. Many injured victims have been taken to hospitals in Katsina-Ala Town for treatment.

Chairman of Katsina-Ala Local Government Area, Mr. Justin Shaku, confirmed the incident, describing it as an unprovoked attack.

Governor Hyacinth Alia has condemned the attack, expressing deep condolences to the affected families and assuring the public that those responsible will be brought to justice.

The governor has also urged Benue residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities, emphasizing that security remains a top priority for his administration.

The attack has sparked widespread condemnation, with many calling for increased security measures to prevent further bloodshed.
